New Scanner Detects COVID-19 on People and Surfaces

American company Advanced Medical Solutions International (AMSI) developed a new portable device that’s allegedly capable of detecting the coronavirus instantly in people and on surfaces.

Aptly named The COVID Hunter, the device scans surfaces without touching them in order to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2.

If that wasn’t enough to satisfy your needs, The COVID Hunter is apparently also update able, so as to identify new variants of the coronavirus, something that’s all too useful at the moment.

AMSI explained that The COVID Hunter is able to locate the corona virus inside humans, such as in their lungs, throat, nose, and skin — without having to touch them or invasively prod them. It can also detect the virus through glass or transparent material.

All that needs to be done is to point the scanner within two meters (six feet) of a person or object, and the job is done.

What is The COVID Hunter?

The COVID Hunter is a non-invasive, touchless, immediate, and portable detector of the virus SARS-CoV-2 which causes the disease COVID-19, demonstrating >99% specificity and sensitivity within 0-2 meters (6.5 feet) on surfaces, through glass or transparent material, and inside the human body.

Nobel Prize-winning molecular geneticist, Professor Mario Capecchi, serves as an advisor to AMSI on this and the company’s other breakthrough technologies – including a cure for allergic airway disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that is currently in the preliminary phase of FDA approval.

AMSI technology builds upon research performed by Professor Maria Grant at the University of Florida and the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the work of Dr. Adeeb Al-Zoubi at Stem Cells Arabia in Jordan, the sister company of AMSI.

“We utilized specific spectra of electromagnetic waves to identify the unique ‘thumbprint’ of the virus,”“As new mutations are found, The COVID Hunter is capable of being ‘updated’ to detect new strains of the virus, making it a critical weapon to defeat the spread of the pandemic.”

explains Dr. Adeeb Al-Zoubi, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of AMSI,

How The COVID Hunter scanner works

It emits a beam and gathers information that is analyzed in real-time thanks to refraction, ultimately detecting if the spike protein of the virus is present.

If the scanner detects the spike protein it lets out an alarm sound, otherwise, it remains silent.

In tests, The COVID Hunter showed an over 99 percent accuracy rate, was able to differentiate between positive and negative patients and detected COVID-19 positive samples validated via a PCR test.

“The handheld COVID Hunter will revolutionize the way SARS-CoV-2 (including mutated strains) is detected, slowing the spread of the deadly virus, saving lives, and returning life to ‘normal’ in the near future,”

Explained Donald Redman, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of AMSI.

The goal of The COVID Hunter is to get life back to normal as quickly as possible by scanning people, hospitals, rooms, schools, venues, food and beverage outlets, hotels, and so much more.

AMSI stated that once produced, the scanner would first be distributed to healthcare workers worldwide. And to speed up its production process, the scanner will be manufactured in various regions including Central America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
